About me

I’m an entrepreneur who founded, built, and eventually sold (to Ford) a crazy-awesome math-based engineering company. I recently retired from that company.

I’ve spent my entire career listening to my customers’ hardest problems and working to solve them – and it’s worked out well. My customers’ success is my success.

I’ve worked on plenty of algorithms and intelligent systems, and I understand how sensing, perception, and controls combine to form robust automation for all sorts of applications. I’m a robot guy, but not robotic!

I love modeling and simulation, and even helped build a key sim tool that was widely used in military circles for off-road autonomy R&D.

I like to get my hands dirty, and very few things scare me. Cross-pollination is my game. I use my superpowers for good, innovating with technology to solve challenging problems and trying to make life better.

I know how to build and grow a small business, form great teams and culture, and create value. I study the patterns of tech evolution and use it to predict “what’s next.” I also know US government contracting. DCAA, DCMA, DSS, GSA – been there, done that.

I’ve worked on many boards and committees, advised VC/PE tech investors and M&A teams, judged many science fairs, and coached kids in electronics and other tech stuff.

My LinkedIn is here, and if you think I might be able to help, get in touch here!

On a personal note...

When I was a very young, I built cool stuff like mobile robots, hovercraft, tesla coils, rail guns, and plasma globes. As a college student, I worked in implantable brain interfaces and neural signal processing.  I also invented an ECG cartridge for the Nintendo Gameboy. I’ve been collecting and restoring arcade games since the late 80s, and am building a new arcade museum in my hometown. I also collect old computers and movie posters I invest in real estate, and own a 1930 high school and a former cheese shop from 1945. I love Detroit and I’ve lived in greater Detroit all my life. I currently live in Saline, Michigan, just outside of Ann Arbor.
